High Level Overview

1. Here are the key parameters that will determine how many plans we need to create in AWS Backup:
   • Backup frequency (Hourly, Every 12 Hours, Daily, Weekly Monthly)
   • Backup window. If some jobs are running during a specific time and the backup window needs to be limited, then a new plan is needed to account for this
   • Transition to cold storage after a period of time. This is only supported for Dynamo DB and EFS.
   • Retention period. How long to keep backups for. Each plan can have only one retention period.
   • Copy to destination. Create cross-Region and cross-account copies of your recovery points.

Plan

The plan is to take daily backups for PROD DB, and the retention period will be for three months.

Tags Required

• Tag Name: Backup Type
• Tag Value: Prod, Non-Prod

Prod Backup Parameters

• Backup Frequency: Daily
• Backup Window: Default
• Cold Storage Transition: Not needed
• Retention Period: 3 month
• Copy to Destination: Not at This Time

Non-Prod Backup Parameters

• Backup Frequency: Daily
• Backup Window: Default
• Cold Storage Transition: Not needed
• Retention Period: 2 Weeks
• Copy to Destination: Not at This Time
